This album was recorded at Thunderstorm Hollow in North Carolina over a six month period, between May and November 2011. Originally conceived as a one disk album, as we were recording the trax TTT kept writing, so by the time August rolled around there were approximately 40+ songs to pick through. Eventually we came to the conclusion that we should put out a double CD.
That in mind, we picked through those 40+ songs to see which ones fit together best, and then we went to work on finishing the 24 songs we’d chosen. Twenty-three of the songs are original. The last song on the album - “The Scholar” is a traditional Irish Folk song with an interesting story.
TTT really liked one of the Uillean bagpipe riffs that Pat Sky and his fiddle playing wife Cathy (also a published author) had recorded on their most recent CD “Down To This” (available on the Pat Sky site). TTT wondered what that riff would sound like with drums and slide guitar behind it, so for fun he copied Pat’s bagpipe track off the master recording and pasted it into a new version, complete with drums and guitar. After playing it for several people it became obvious that it was a hit with the listeners, so TTT asked Pat if he could use the track and Pat graciously said yes. We hope you find the finished product as interesting and as HOT as we do.
Pat Sky is a 60s - 70s Folk Music legend who has written, recorded, and produced songs for himself and other nationally known acts. Today he builds and plays Uillean bagpipes - which are Irish as opposed to Scottish bagpipes and are much more versatile. If you’re interested in finding out more about the pipes, contact Pat or Cathy Sky at PatSky.com or cruise their site just to read Pat’s discography.
